The YT range from Yanmar has been built in Japan since 2014 and spans in the register from the compact YT235 to the YT490; Yanmar, founded in Osaka in 1912, ranks among Japan's most established makers of engines and farm machinery and is known in particular for its compact, high-revving diesel engines. Yanmar develops and builds these diesel engines in-house, which allows a close match between engine and transmission.

Compact Japanese tractors such as the YT range are designed for smaller holdings, orchard and vegetable growing, and municipal applications, where manoeuvrability and a frugal, high-revving diesel engine matter; Yanmar competes in this segment with Kubota and Iseki.
When buying used, condition of the high-revving diesel engine including injection and cooling, the clutch and gearbox, and the hydraulics and lift all matter; spare parts run through the Yanmar dealer network. On machines used in municipal service, the implement mounts and hydraulic hoses also belong on the checklist.
