The span runs from small trailers for inflatables and fishing boats to heavy versions for yachts and larger sports boats, of the kind common in the Dutch watersports market.

When buying used, the lighter types call for a check of the axle suspension, the coupling head and the roller or keel-track fittings, while the heavier versions with a gross weight of several tonnes also need the braking system, axle-load distribution and tread condition of the often multi-axle chassis checked. The frame and coupling should be examined for corrosion from salt-water contact, since these trailers are regularly submerged during launching.
