Aluminium semi-trailers of the Dutch build are common in European farm and building-material haulage, because the lighter aluminium allows more payload than steel and the side boards resist corrosion better than painted steel, extending service life in outdoor use.
On a used purchase, on the aluminium side boards cracks and dents rather than rust, the condition of frame and axles, brakes and tyres, the function of the side-board and tailgate locking, and the tightness of the welds on the aluminium body all count; spares run through the Dutch commercial-vehicle trade. On the heavier versions with a 43-tonne gross weight, the condition of the brake discs or drums is also worth a look.
