Tadano Faun ATF – all-terrain cranes built in Germany: six- and eight-cylinder engines from 260 to 480 kW, lifting chassis at gross weights from 36 to 86.4 tonnes

ATF stands for All Terrain Faun and denotes Tadano Faun's mobile-crane range, tracing back to the crane maker Faun, founded in 1863 in Lauf an der Pegnitz; after its takeover by the Japanese Tadano group in 2007, the plant has traded as Tadano Faun. Model designations such as ATF 220G-5 state lifting capacity in tonnes (220 t) and generation (G-5), while EM4 marks a version with a four-axle carrier for road transport without a special permit.

The register lists 13 versions with six- and eight-cylinder engines from 260 to 480 kW and 7,201 to 15,928 cm³, kerb weights from 35,750 to 71,910 kg, gross vehicle weights from 36,000 to 86,400 kg, lengths from 11,510 to 17,900 mm and widths from 2,550 to 3,000 mm.

All-terrain cranes such as the ATF range combine road registration with full off-road capability and are used on construction sites, in plant engineering and for wind-turbine erection; Tadano Faun's main rival there is Liebherr, whose plant in Ehingen lies only a few hundred kilometres away, alongside Grove.

When buying used, check operating hours and service records for the hoist and telescopic boom, the condition of the outrigger cylinders, hydraulic system tightness, and on multi-axle carriers tyre condition and axle steering; the electronic load-moment limiter is worth checking for stored fault codes. Parts and service run through the Tadano service network.
