Subaru is the vehicle brand of Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries, based in Gunma; this page combines two very different types of vehicle that the register could not assign to a named series. On one side is the Sambar, Subaru's kei-class micro-van with a rear engine and typically under 660 cc, whose generations are recorded as E10, E12, KS3 and KS4 – designations that denote the respective production series internally. On the other side are passenger cars such as the Legacy, Outback, Forester, Impreza and XV, registered commercially as vans, and the Baja, a genuine pick-up version of the Legacy/Outback with an open load bed.

The register holds 27 versions here with 38 to 154 kW from two- to four-cylinder engines of 544 to 2,498 cc, kerb weights from 600 to 1,741 kg, gross vehicle weights from 1,010 to 2,200 kg, lengths from 3,300 to 4,870 mm and widths from 1,390 to 1,875 mm.

The Sambar serves Japan's kei-car segment for inner-city delivery services and tradesmen, while the Legacy, Outback and Forester, with Subaru's boxer engines and four-wheel drive, are popular in the European market among high-mileage drivers in rural areas. The Baja remained a niche model that is scarce in Europe.

On the Sambar, check for corrosion in the floor pan and the condition of the small two- or three-cylinder engine; on the Legacy, Outback and Forester, check the head gasket on the boxer engines, oil seepage from the cylinder-head gaskets, and the condition of the viscous coupling in the four-wheel-drive system. Parts for the Sambar generations are only available in Europe through importers, while parts for the passenger models run through the regular Subaru network.
