The Rubin series formed, at SAME of Treviglio under the SDF group, the top end of the field-tractor range. The models Rubin 120, 135, 160 and 180 state engine power directly in hp through their number; the four types are thus clearly ranked by power class. Within the SDF group, Rubin complemented the independent Deutz-Fahr and Lamborghini brands, which offered their own large-tractor ranges in a similar power class.

The register lists 4 versions with 88.3 to 132.4 kW, or 120 to 180 hp, from consistently six-cylinder engines of 6,000 to 6,001cc, torque from 498 to 750 Nm at 2,350 rpm, kerb weights from 6,100 to 7,100 kg, lengths from 4,670 to 4,861 mm, widths from 2,426 to 2,450 mm and heights from 2,880 to 2,970 mm.

As a large tractor, the Rubin series targeted large arable farms with high drawbar-pull requirements, such as heavy tillage and work with wide attached implements, competing in this class with Fiat, Case IH and Fendt models of similar power. The high torque and six-cylinder layout suited towing heavy trailed implements such as ploughs, subsoilers and large trailers.

When buying used, check operating hours, clutch and gearbox condition given the high torque, engine and hydraulic oil-tightness, and corrosion on the cab and chassis; spare parts supply runs through the SDF dealer network for the SAME brand.
