SAME – Società Anonima Motori Endotermici – was founded in 1942 by Francesco Cassani in Treviglio, Lombardy, and is counted among Italy's pioneers of the diesel tractor and of four-wheel drive in agriculture; the plainly numbered 240 to 480 models belong to the company's early ranges, before SAME moved to named series from the 1970s. The DT abbreviation stands at SAME for Doppia Trazione, meaning four-wheel drive, and the V on the 450/V model for the narrow vineyard version.

The numbered range served the Italian post-war market, where the four-wheel drive of the DT models gave an advantage on the hilly farmland of northern Italy; SAME later expanded the brand together with Lamborghini, Hürlimann and Deutz-Fahr into the SDF group that still exists today.

On used tractors, engine and injection pump, clutch and gearbox, on DT models also the front-axle transfer case and the drive shafts, hydraulics and brakes, and sheet metal and frame for rust count; parts now run through the SDF/Same-Deutz-Fahr dealer network.
