In Europe the R1T competes in the light-commercial class up to 3.5 tonnes, where its high unladen weight from the heavy battery packs sets it clearly apart from conventional diesel vans and uses almost the entire gross weight allowance for the vehicle itself.

On a used electric pickup of this kind, the condition of the traction battery and its remaining capacity, the charging history through fast-charging stations, corrosion on the underbody and frame despite the largely sealed construction, and the suspension and brakes under the high vehicle weight all count.

Because the R1T runs purely on electricity, no Euro emission stage with exhaust-gas recirculation, particulate filter or SCR technology applies to it; it is also exempt from diesel driving bans and low-emission-zone restrictions that apply to combustion-engined vehicles in many European city centres. As an EU class N1 vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes, it can nonetheless be driven on a standard category B licence.
