Rite 707: American four-wheel-drive tractor with a Detroit Diesel engine, 520 kW output from Montana, in the Further Models series

Rite 707
Pictured: Rite 707

The 707 was built in Great Falls, Montana, USA, and fitted with a diesel engine from the maker Detroit Diesel. With an output far beyond that of classic farm tractors, it belongs to the rare class of ultra-high-power four-wheel-drive giant tractors built in North America for vast arable areas.

The water-cooled engine delivers 520 kW, equivalent to 700 horsepower, and drives all four wheels through four-wheel drive. Such output clearly exceeds that of any standard tractor and is closer to heavy construction machinery or the largest four-wheel articulated tractors used for deep tillage and cultivation on very large farms.

Ultra-high-power four-wheel-drive tractors of this class emerged chiefly in the large arable regions of the United States and Canada, where individual holdings farm tens of thousands of hectares and therefore need pulling power far beyond the European standard class. Engines from Detroit Diesel, originally developed for trucks and construction machinery, were often fitted to such giant tractors for their ruggedness.

When buying a used 707, the availability of spare parts for the Detroit Diesel engine and the four-wheel-drive system is decisive, since these giant tractors were usually built in small numbers for a specific market. The tyres and axles should also be checked for wear, as the enormous torque of this power class places heavy strain on the drivetrain and tyres.
