The water-cooled six-cylinder engine displaces 6,234 cm³ and delivers 121.4 kW at 2,350 rpm, equivalent to 165 horsepower, with 593 Nm of torque. With a weight of 6,220 kg, a wheelbase of 2,760 mm and a top speed of 30 km/h, the 175-74 TZ was built for heavy drawbar work with large tillage equipment.
Six-cylinder engines of over six litres displacement and more than 160 horsepower marked the top of the standard tractor range in the late 1980s, before articulated and crawler tractors complemented this power class for the largest farms. Torque close to 600 Nm keeps full pulling power available even as engine speed drops under load.
When buying a used 175-74 TZ, the turbocharger and intercooler should be checked for loss of power, since these components are heavily stressed under full load on such a powerful six-cylinder engine. The rear axle and the large tyres also deserve a check for wear, as the tractor's high weight places lasting strain on the drivetrain components. The braking system should also be tested under full load, since such a heavy tractor must be able to stop with particular certainty.
