The Temis series formed, for Renault Agriculture of Le Mans, a larger class of field tractors; the model designations Temis 550, 610, 630 and 650 rank the four types by power class. As a large-tractor series, Temis topped off the Renault range above the mid-range PX and Ares series. Renault's naming during this period drew on classical names such as Ares, Ceres and Temis, each denoting a different power class within the range.

The Temis series targeted large arable farms in France that needed high engine power and corresponding weight for heavy tillage and work with large attached implements; in this class it competed with the John Deere 6000 series, Case IH Magnum and Fendt Favorit. Such large tractors were also used for heavy haulage and stationary PTO-driven work on bigger French arable holdings.
When buying used, check operating hours, clutch and gearbox condition given the high torque, engine and hydraulic oil-tightness, and corrosion on the cab and chassis; spare parts for large Renault tractors of this generation remain available through the European farm machinery trade.
