The Renault Master serves as the basis for a wide range of bodies from box vans to refrigerated vehicles to special purposes, because the chassis is available in several wheelbases and body heights, suiting it to individual conversions.

On a used body of this kind, the condition of the Master chassis with its known wear points at the turbocharger and injection system, the workmanship of the transitions between cab and body, rust at the mounting points, and brakes and tyres under full payload all count.

At 3.5 tonnes gross weight these bodies fall into the EU vehicle class N1; they can be driven on a standard category B licence and are exempt from both the Sunday and public-holiday driving ban for lorries and the heavy-goods road toll, which only apply to heavier weight classes. The current Renault Master is offered with either front-wheel or rear-wheel drive depending on payload trim: front-wheel-drive versions give a lower loading floor for lighter box bodies, while rear-wheel-drive versions offer more reserve for heavy payload and trailer work.
