Alongside its cars and trucks, Renault built farm tractors in France for decades. The R 7022/R 7023 from the 3042 er-Serie was built between January 1951 and January 1956 and belonged to the mid-range standard tractors of post-war French farm machinery.

The water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine displaces 4,181 cm³ and delivers 30.9 kW at 1,800 rpm, equivalent to 42 horsepower. With a weight of 1,740 kg, a wheelbase of 1,625 mm, a width of 1,204 mm and a top speed of 25 km/h, the tractor was built for classic drawbar work in arable farming rather than fast road travel.

A four-cylinder diesel engine of a good four litres displacement and about 40 horsepower belonged to the upper mid-range of farm tractors in the early 1950s, powerful enough for ploughing and cultivator work on larger fields yet still manageable for medium-sized holdings. The comparatively narrow track width of 1,204 mm suited the row spacing typical of arable farming at the time.

When buying a used Renault from this early series, it is worth carefully checking the cooling system and the cylinder head gasket, since engines of this age often suffer corrosion inside the water jacket. The injection pump and clutch should also be checked for wear, as original spare parts for this early series are only available to a limited extent today.
