The J5 was in the 1980s among Europe's best-selling large vans and, through the SEVEL cooperation, served four brands at once; in the fleets of European hauliers and trade businesses it was widespread for its rugged front-drive engineering and large load volumes.

On used examples, rust on the sills, wheel arches and load floor, the condition of the front-drive shafts, and the clutch and gearbox all count; since identical vehicles were also sold as Citroën, Fiat and Talbot, spare parts are comparatively well available through all four brand networks and independent parts dealers.
