Oliver, the tractor maker from Charles City, Iowa, had its own ranges built by Fiat in Italy for the European market during the 1960s; the 55 series names approximately the power class in hp. It comprises the two four-wheel-drive models 1255 and 1355. Sales ran through Oliver's European dealer network, while the technical base was closely aligned with contemporary Fiat ranges.

The register lists here 2 versions with 30.9 to 40.5 kW from three- to four-cylinder engines of 2,339 to 3,119 cm³, an unladen weight of 1,870 to 2,000 kg, a length of 2,921 to 3,099 mm, a width of 1,598 to 1,778 mm, a height of 1,488 to 1,539 mm, torque of 143 to 186 Nm and a rated speed of 2,400 rpm.

The range targeted medium-sized arable farms in Europe and stands in close technical kinship with contemporary Fiat tractors of the same power class, with which it shared engines and chassis. These models competed with other mid-range standard tractors of the 1960s on the Western European market, without departing fundamentally in technical terms from their Fiat origin.

Buyers of used units should check the front axle on the four-wheel-drive versions, clutch and gearbox, and the hydraulics, as well as rust on the bodywork and mudguards; because production has ended, spares run mostly through Fiat parts stocks and specialist vintage-tractor dealers. An inspection should also cover the alternator, starter motor and the seals on the engine and gearbox.
