The NG 28 is powered by a twin-cylinder diesel engine of 2.58 litres with water thermosiphon cooling, delivering 20.5 kW at 1,500 rpm, roughly 28 hp. At an unladen weight of 1,515 kg, a length of 2,670 mm, a height of 1,580 mm and a wheelbase of 1,705 mm, the machine has a design top speed of 18.7 km/h.
Water thermosiphon cooling follows the classic pump-free circulation principle and was widespread on twin-cylinder diesels of the post-war years. At just over 1.5 tonnes unladen and with 20.5 kW on tap, the NG 28 sat in a class that allowed both tillage and heavier transport on medium holdings, going beyond the smaller Faktor II with larger power-take-off implements.
When buying a tractor like this, check the cooling lines and cylinder head gasket, since thermosiphon systems overheat quickly once they start leaking. Wear on clutch, gearbox, axle bearings and rear axle seals should also be assessed before purchase. The condition of the fuel tank and its mounting straps is also worth a look, along with wear on the rear wheel bearings after so many decades of use. Original Normag parts are scarce today, so compatible aftermarket components are often the more realistic option for a running restoration.
