The register lists 143 versions with power outputs from 70 to 116 kW, displacements from 2,820 to 5,883 cm³ and four to eight cylinders. Unladen weights range from 1,740 to 2,699 kg, permissible gross weights from 2,300 to 3,200 kg, widths from 1,650 to 2,090 mm; length figures are only recorded for a smaller share of the models.

As a rugged expedition and military off-roader, the Patrol has been scarcely available in Europe since the early 2010s, but remains a sales success in the Middle East, Australia and Africa.

On used examples, check rust on the ladder frame and spring mounts, the condition of the transfer-case seals, the injection pump or turbocharger on diesel engines, the braking system on the heavier Y61 models, and the availability of spare parts outside the core markets, which is limited in Europe.
