The TL series represented the versatile utility class in the 1990s New Holland Geotech generation, between the more compact L series and the heavy M and TS series. The four types TL 70, TL 80, TL 90 and TL 100 state the power step directly in the type number, and the DT suffix denotes the four-wheel-drive version; all four types ran consistently with four-cylinder engines.

As a utility tractor, the TL series covered both field work and transport and loading tasks, aimed at mixed arable and livestock farms of medium size, in competition with comparable series from Deutz-Fahr and Massey Ferguson. Distribution ran through the existing Ford and New Holland dealer network, which was gradually converted to the new brand identity during this transitional period.
On a used purchase, check the condition of the clutch and gearbox, the tightness of the hydraulics and PTO, and corrosion on wings and steering knuckles; on DT four-wheel-drive versions also the front-axle drive and propeller shafts, with parts running through the New Holland network.
