The Geotech 82 series forms the top power class of New Holland's large tractors, covering the 9282, 9482, 9682 and 9882 types; the register name, like the smaller 60 and 70 series, dates from New Holland's merger era in the 1990s. All four models carry six-cylinder diesel engines whose displacement rises with the power step.

With outputs above 300 kW, the Geotech 82 series counts among the largest field tractors of its time, designed for large farms with very high draft-power needs, such as tillage with wide cultivators on large field areas, competing with comparable large tractors from Case IH and John Deere. It is used mainly for tillage, sowing, transport work and powering trailed harvesting machinery.
When buying used, the operating hours on the six-cylinder, the condition of the lift hydraulics, the tightness of turbocharger and cooling system, and wear on the axles and wide tyres all matter. Spare parts run through the New Holland dealer network. It is also worth checking the on-board electronics, cab mounting and seat suspension, and tyre tread depth.
