At Mercedes-Benz the type number 437 denotes the heavy Unimog series above medium types such as the 425 series; U2400 and U 2450, with their four-digit power designation, mark the upper end of the classic Unimog model range. Like other Unimogs of the period, these heavy versions were also built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau and share the basic concept of portal axles, a frame with torsional flexibility, and power take-offs and hydraulic couplings at both ends of the vehicle.

With considerably higher torque than the medium Unimog series, the 437 class is built for work with particularly heavy implements and trailer loads, for example in forestry, road maintenance service and large municipal equipment.
When buying used, check the condition of the portal axles and drive shafts given this high torque class, the tightness of the multi-couplings for front and rear hydraulics, the condition of frame and cab, and the braking system; parts continue to be supplied through the Mercedes-Benz and Unimog network.
