McCormick ZTX

The ZTX 230 is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine with 8,300 cm3 displacement, producing 169 kW (230 hp). At an unladen weight of 10,040 kg and a width of 2,500 mm, it is one of the heaviest-built standard tractors in the range, correspondingly large-framed at 3,102 mm tall and 5,335 mm long. Its design top speed is 40 km/h.

Six-cylinder engines above eight litres of displacement and weights over ten tonnes belong to the top power class of field tractors, needed for tilling large arable areas with wide cultivators and ploughs, for heavy trailer combinations and for driving power-hungry PTO-mounted implements. The 2,500 mm width calls for correspondingly wide field tracks and yard gates.

When buying a used ZTX 230, check the clutch, gearbox and rear axle with particular care, since at over ten tonnes and 169 kW, large forces run through the entire drivetrain. The six-cylinder engine calls for a look at the turbocharger, injection system and cooling performance, and the tyres should be checked for even wear, since tractors of this weight class are specifically designed around ground pressure and track stability, especially on soft or uneven ground.
