Massey Harris PARRETT-Baureihe

Massey-Harris PARRETT range – the No. 1 to No. 3 built under Parrett licence: four-cylinders of 5.1 to 6.5 litres, 7.5 to 11.2 kW, kerosene-petrol operation from Canadian production, 1918 to 1923
Massey-Harris built the PARRETT range from 1918 to 1923 under licence from the American manufacturer Parrett Tractor Company of Chicago Heights; production took place in Canada. The three models M-H 1, M-H 2 and M-H 3 differ chiefly in displacement and output but share the same layout with an upright four-cylinder engine, chain final drive and the dual-fuel operation typical of tractors of that era.

The register lists 3 versions with 7.5 to 11.2 kW (10.2 to 15.2 hp) from four-cylinders of 5,114 to 6,516 cc displacement at a rated speed of 1,000 rpm. Operating weight ranges from 2,359 to 2,631 kg, length from 3,658 to 3,886 mm, width from 1,829 to 1,981 mm and height from 1,524 to 1,676 mm. All three models ran on a kerosene-petrol mixture.
The PARRETT range ranks among the earliest tractors built in Canada and marks Massey-Harris's entry into tractor manufacturing before the company developed its own designs. The large displacement paired with comparatively low output is typical of the slow-turning engines of the period, built for pulling power rather than revs.
Surviving examples are collector's items today; a purchase check should cover the condition of the cylinder head and cooling system, the tightness of the fuel system for kerosene-petrol operation, wear on the chain drive and rear axle, and the completeness of the radiator, starting crank and steering linkage. Spare parts come almost exclusively from collector markets and reproduction, and an original engine is a rarity.
