Manufacture d'Armes de Paris DR 3 (DR series): water-cooled two-cylinder opposed-piston diesel engine of 2,500 cc, rated at 30 hp (22 kW) at 1,500 rpm, a French post-war agricultural tractor built between 1947 and 1951
The name Manufacture d'Armes de Paris, literally Paris arms manufactory, points to an origin in arms production, as seen at several French metalworking firms that switched to agricultural machinery after the Second World War. The DR 3 was built during this period of transition, between 1947 and 1951.

The DR 3 is driven by a water-cooled two-cylinder opposed-piston diesel engine of 2,500 cc displacement, rated at 30 hp (22 kW) at 1,500 rpm. Unladen weight is 2,200 kg, wheelbase 1,830 mm, width 1,720 mm and length 3,000 mm, at a height of 1,850 mm. Top speed is 20 km/h.
The opposed-piston design, in which two pistons move towards each other within each cylinder, was a rare arrangement of the period aimed at smoother running at low revs. At 30 hp and only 1,500 rpm, with a weight of over 2.2 tonnes, the DR 3 sits in the class of medium tractors of the early post-war years, needed for tillage and drawbar work on farms under reconstruction.
On a surviving DR 3, it is especially worth checking the opposed-piston mechanism for piston timing and even wear of both pistons in each cylinder, since this design is more sensitive to incorrect adjustment than a conventional two-cylinder engine. Parts for this rare powerplant can only be found through collectors and restorers specialising in historic French farm machinery.
