MAN, the commercial-vehicle and engine maker from Augsburg and Nuremberg, at whose Augsburg works Rudolf Diesel developed his first working diesel engine, also built a small range of agricultural diesel tractors in Nuremberg under the N designation. The types listed here, the 2N1, 4N1 and 4N2, are two-cylinder diesels and form the end of this sideline alongside MAN's actual core business of trucks and large engines.

The register lists here 3 versions with 20.5 to 22 kW or 28 to 30 hp from the uniformly two-cylinder engine of 1,664 to 1,964 cm³ displacement at rated speeds of 1,850 to 2,000 rpm. Unladen weights lie between 1,600 and 1,950 kg, lengths between 3,110 and 3,130 mm, widths between 1,580 and 1,680 mm and heights between 1,500 and 1,810 mm.
In the segment of small two-cylinder farm tractors, MAN competed with specialist farm-equipment makers such as Deutz, Eicher and Hanomag, but could not hold its ground permanently with the agricultural diesel against the established tractor brands; MAN's core business remained commercial vehicles and industrial engines.
On a used example, the condition of the two-cylinder diesel and its injection pump, hydraulic tightness, wear of clutch and mechanical gearbox, and rust on mudguards and chassis after decades of use count; parts, given the low production numbers, are available mainly through specialist vintage-machinery dealers.
