On a used purchase, the condition of chassis and axles, the braking system and overrun coupling or fifth-wheel coupling, corrosion on load-bearing parts and tyre wear all count; spare parts for the smaller and the heavier types alike run through the open trailer-parts trade. On the multi-axle versions, a tandem or tridem axle group spreads the load onto the tyres more evenly than a single axle, which spares the axle bearings especially on the heaviest types on this page.
