The HL14 carries an air-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine of 1,020 cm3 displacement, producing 10.3 kW, or 14 hp, at 2,400 rpm. The machine weighs only 963 kg, reaches 20.2 km/h, and measures 2,405 mm in length, 1,460 mm in width and 1,430 mm in height on a 1,525 mm wheelbase.

Air cooling dispenses with a radiator, water pump and antifreeze, making the engine simpler to build and more reliable in the harsh Tyrolean mountain climate, including in frost. The low weight of 963 kg reduces ground pressure on the steep hillsides and grassland common in alpine regions compared with heavier standard tractors.

For such an old, light tractor, checking the cylinder's cooling fins for cracks and corrosion matters, since the machine will often have stood outdoors on hillsides for decades. The frame and axles deserve particular attention for deformation given the typical use on uneven, steep ground, along with the general spare parts situation for a series that has not been produced for decades and the condition of the wheel bearings and steering linkage after long hillside service.
