Lanz Alldog (1951-1960) - the Mannheim implement carrier: single- and twin-cylinder engines of 0.4 to 1.3 litres, 9 to 13 kW, 980 to 1,420 kg kerb weight
The Alldog was Heinrich Lanz's answer to the need for a versatile implement carrier: built from 1951 in Mannheim, it was designed as a light universal tractor that, besides classic draft work, could also carry front- and mid-mounted implements for cultivation and harvesting. The type designations from A 1205 to A 1806 order the build sizes; the smaller models ran single-cylinder engines, the larger ones twin-cylinder units. After John Deere took over Lanz in 1956, the series continued until around 1960.

The register lists 6 versions with 8.8 to 13.2 kW from single- and twin-cylinder engines of 446 to 1,250 cm³ at around 2,000 to 2,800 rpm, kerb weights of 980 to 1,420 kg, lengths of 3,650 to 3,830 mm, widths of 1,620 to 1,630 mm and heights of 1,650 to 1,715 mm; most models run on diesel, one on a petrol-oil mixture.
As an implement carrier, the Alldog targeted smaller farms and commercial horticulture, where a single vehicle was needed at once for tillage, transport and mounted harvesting machinery - a niche that Fendt and Same also occupied at the same time with their own implement carriers. When the series ended around 1960, the Lanz brand name also disappeared from John Deere's line-up.
On a used example of these small single- and twin-cylinder diesels, check compression and the injection pump, the front and mid PTO implement mounts, the clutch and steering, and corrosion on the frame and sheet metal; because so few were built, parts are scarce and available mainly through Lanz and vintage-vehicle specialists.
