The rugged chassis made the Land Rover a preferred basis for special conversions outside the factory programme, including the Forward Control-based fire engines represented here, used mainly by small brigades in rural areas as well as in former colonies and export markets.

When buying used, check corrosion on the chassis side rails and crossmembers, the condition of the aluminium body panels where they meet the steel frame, the tightness of the older-design engines, the function of freewheel hubs and the transfer case, and, on fire-engine bodies, the condition of the pump and tank; parts come from a broad network of Land Rover specialists.
