The M8540 CAB is powered by a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine of 3,769 cm³ displacement, delivering 65 kW, or 88 hp, at 2,600 rpm. At a kerb weight of 2,751 kg, the tractor is 3,750 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 2,560 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. Its design top speed is 40 km/h.
At 40 km/h, the M8540 CAB reaches the upper limit of driving licence category L. The enclosed cab protects against weather, noise and dust, easing harvest work with heavy dust or winter service duties. In the power class around 65 kW lies the classic arable tractor for soil cultivation with medium-sized mounted implements and transport work with trailers.
When buying a used cab-equipped tractor of this size class, in addition to checking the clutch, gearbox and hydraulics, it is worth inspecting the cab seals at the doors and windscreen, since moisture ingress causes rust on the cab floor. Equally important are the rubber cab mounts, which transmit unabsorbed vibration to the operator station if cracked, and the operation of the wipers and cab heater, since a non-functioning heater in an enclosed cab is far more noticeable than on an open tractor.
