Krone SZK 18

The register lists 5 versions with unladen weights from 7,520 to 9,300 kg, gross weights from 28,000 to 32,000 kg, lengths from 13,860 to 13,950 mm and a width of 2,550 mm.

At around 13.9 m long and gross weights up to 32 t, the SZK 18 trailers are among the largest drawbar-combination components in long-haul traffic, where together with a truck chassis they exploit the maximum loading volume of an articulated combination; here Krone competes with manufacturers such as Schmitz Cargobull and Fliegl. In interchange traffic with tractor units from different hauliers, too, trailers of this size are in demand thanks to their standardised coupling technology.

When buying used, check the drawbar and overrun brake for play and braking effect, the frame and side members for corrosion, the axles, tyres and braking system, and, on forced-steering axles, the steering linkage; on the long wheelbases of this range, uneven tyre wear often signals misaligned tracking at an early stage.
