The Kirovets K-700 range comes from the Kirov Plant in Leningrad, today's St Petersburg, which has built the articulated four-wheel-drive tractor in series since 1962. From the K-700 through the K-701, K-702 and K-703 to the K-744 and the even larger K-9000, the range grew into Russia's largest series-built tractor to this day; its defining feature is the articulated steering, where the front and rear halves of the vehicle pivot against each other, allowing a tight turning radius despite large tyres.

Kirovets tractors have shaped and still shape large-scale farming in Russia, Kazakhstan and other former Soviet countries, where they are used for heavy tillage, transport across large fields and as a base for attachments such as snow ploughs and loader buckets; the Kirov Plant continues to build the range under the Kirovets brand today.
When buying a used Kirovets, the condition of the articulation joint and its hydraulic cylinders, the tightness of the central hydraulic system and corrosion on the frame and cab rank among the key checkpoints; spare parts for the older K-700 model years are widely available across the former Soviet Union, while parts for the newer K-744 generations run through the Kirov Plant itself.
