John Deere built the 9020 Series from 2002 to 2007 as articulated high-power tractors, and the T models listed here – 9320T, 9420T, 9520T and 9620T – carry rubber tracks instead of wheels on both frame halves. All four models share the same six-cylinder engine displacing 12,536 cc at 2,100 rpm rated speed, with the type number rising with the power class. The series complemented the wheeled 9020 models with a tracked variant for especially heavy soils.

The combination of articulated steering and track undercarriage aimed the 9020T Series at large operations with high flotation demands, such as tillage and seeding on heavy or wet soils, competing with the Case IH Quadtrac and the Challenger MT700B. The large six-cylinder with its high drawbar pull made the machines a first choice for large-scale tillage.
