J.I. Case hundreds B series (1957–1959) – 211-B to 910-B: the birth of the Case-o-matic, petrol, LPG and the first diesels, 22 to 52 kW

The B series was J.I. Case's tractor programme of the late 1950s from Racine, Wisconsin – the models 200-B to 900-B, which replaced the old letter types in 1957 and were replaced by the 30 series in 1960. Their technical significance lies in a transmission: with the 800-B and 900-B, Case introduced the Case-o-matic in 1957, a torque-converter drive that, as one of the first in farm machinery, allowed starting under load without clutch wear and became the brand's hallmark for the following decades. The type number follows a fixed pattern: the first digit orders the size class from 2 to 9, the endings 10 and 11 distinguish versions of the same size (410-B versus 411-B, 810-B versus 811-B), the B names the series.

The fuels reflect American farming of the time: of 16 models in the register ten run on petrol, three on propane or optionally petrol and only three on diesel – the diesel engine only prevailed at Case with the 30 series. Values run from 22.1 to 51.5 kW, 2,074 to 6,178 cm³ with four or six cylinders, unladen weights from 1,323 to 3,939 kg, lengths from 3,086 to 3,642 mm, widths from 1,567 to 2,165 mm and heights from 1,410 to 1,676 mm.

The B tractors still wear the Flambeau Red and Desert Sunset livery Case had begun in 1939 and are regarded by collectors as the last generation before the change to the modern Case design of the 1960s.

Used, they are sought-after collector pieces in the USA; when buying, the condition of engine and carburettor, the Case-o-matic (converter, clutches, oil tightness), hydraulics and PTO and the originality of sheet metal and paint are what count.
