Hürlimann of the canton of Thurgau was the Swiss tractor maker that joined the Italian SAME group in 1979 and has since belonged, alongside Lamborghini and later Deutz-Fahr, to the SDF group. The SX range was Hürlimann's top power class: heavy standard tractors with the same 6-litre six-cylinder engine across the whole range, in which the models differ by gearbox ratios, equipment and weight, while displacement and rated speed stayed constant – a mark of the shared SDF engine platform.

As the flagship range, the SX series targeted large arable farms looking for a powerful standard tractor above the 100 kW mark, in direct technical kinship with the contemporary top models of Same and Lamborghini from the same group. Hürlimann remained a distinct brand with a Swiss image even as production had long been concentrated in Italy.
On used tractors, operating hours, the condition of clutch and powershift gearbox, hydraulic pump and PTO, front-axle bearings on four-wheel-drive versions, and rust on cab and wings count; parts supply, given the shared design with Same and Deutz-Fahr models, runs through the SDF dealer network.
