Hürlimann, the Swiss tractor works headquartered in Wil in the canton of St. Gallen, founded by Hans Hürlimann, lists the H range in the register with the types H-10, H-12, H-17 and H-20. The type numbers traditionally followed Hürlimann's approximate power class of the engine; the H range was fitted throughout with four-cylinder petrol engines, at a time when diesel engines were not yet universally standard in Swiss agricultural machinery.

Hürlimann's H-range tractors supplied Swiss farms in hilly and mountainous terrain, where compact dimensions and a low centre of gravity gave an advantage over larger field tractors, competing with other Swiss and southern German makers of small tractors.

On a used Hürlimann H-range tractor, the condition of the petrol engine's carburettor and ignition system, rust on the frame and mudguards, the tightness of the gearbox and axles, and the function of the brakes and steering after decades of use all count; because production has ended, parts are mostly only available within enthusiast and collector circles.
