The single-cylinder engine of 400 cc is air-cooled by a turbo blower and delivers 6.6 kW, or 9 hp. At a weight of about 530 kg, a length of 2,550 mm, a height of 1,120 mm and a width of 1,270 mm, with a wheelbase of 1,550 mm, the AR 48 reaches a top speed of 12 km/h.
Blower-driven air cooling made the engine largely immune to frost and did away with coolant, a radiator and a water pump as possible sources of wear, though it required an intact blower for even cooling across the cylinder. A compact tractor this light was built for small farms and simple field tasks such as light tillage and hauling small loads, not for heavy draught work.
When buying an AR 48, the condition of the turbo blower and the cooling fins on the cylinder matters most, since dirt or a fault there leads directly to overheating. Also worth checking are compression and starting behaviour of the single cylinder, the clutch, and rust on the frame and sheet-metal parts; spare parts for such an old and rare Holder can now only be sourced through specialist vintage-tractor suppliers.
