Heinrich Lanz HN 1 – the Bulldog 12/20 HN in Kombi and Verkehr versions from Mannheim: 4.8-litre single-cylinder, 8.8 kW, multi-fuel operation
The HN 1 is the Bulldog 12/20 HN from Mannheim in three versions: the base version, the Kombi variant and the Verkehr (road) variant. The 12/20 designation follows the German tax-horsepower notation common at the time, where the first number gives the taxable and the second the actual engine output – a system also used on other German vehicles of that period.

The register lists here 3 versions with a uniform 8.8 kW from the uniform single-cylinder of 4,767 cm³ displacement at rated speeds of 760 to 800 rpm. Unladen weights range from 2,100 to 3,150 kg, lengths from 2,740 to 2,912 mm, widths from 1,600 to 1,640 mm and heights from 1,600 to 2,030 mm; all versions run on multiple fuels.
As a smaller Bulldog, the HN 1 provided an entry into motorisation on mid-size and smaller farms, with the multi-fuel engine likewise allowing operation on cheap fuels; the Kombi and Verkehr suffixes mark construction variants for different forms of use.
On a used example, the condition of the hot bulb and cylinder liner, tightness of the cooling, condition of flywheel and starting crank, and rust on mudguards and chassis count; parts for the single-cylinder Bulldog engine are available through specialist Lanz Bulldog mechanics and vintage-machinery dealers.
