The Hanomag WD range, like the brand's other agricultural tractors, came from the Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG plant in Hanover. The register lists the WD Kleinpflug here, along with the types WD R 26 and WD R 28/32, which differ in engine size and chassis layout. A notable feature of the range is its drivetrain technology: alongside straightforward petrol engines, Hanomag also fitted the WD range with multi-fuel engines that could run on different fuels, a practical advantage during the post-war period of scarce and fluctuating fuel supply.

The WD range covered the middle power segment in West Germany's post-war farming, and with its robust technology geared towards fuel flexibility it competed with Deutz and Lanz tractors of the same class found on farms at the same time.
When buying a used WD model, the key points are the condition and tightness of the particular engine, as the multi-fuel and petrol versions bring different carburettor or ignition technology, plus the condition of clutch and gearbox, steering and front axle, and corrosion on the chassis and panels; spare parts are now only stocked by dealers specialising in vintage machinery.
