Eicher was a Bavarian tractor manufacturer known for using its own air-cooled diesel engines, which set the brand apart from water-cooled competitor products. The ES 200 belonged to the Puma series, one of the manufacturer's smaller model lines from the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The ES 200 is powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine of 1,963 cc, producing 28 hp, or 20.5 kW, and 80 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. At a weight of 985 kg, a length of 2,370 mm, a height of 1,110 mm and a width of 890 mm, with a wheelbase of 1,560 mm, it is a light, compact tractor with a top speed of 20 km/h.

A two-cylinder diesel engine of around 20 kW and a comparatively low weight was, in the early 1960s, a typical layout for small and medium farms, suited to tillage with lighter implements and running a power take-off at the standard speeds of 540 or 1,000 rpm. The low weight aided manoeuvrability on smaller plots.

When buying such an old Eicher ES 200 secondhand, the condition of the cooling fins on the cylinder block and of the cooling fan matters most, since dirt or damage there leads to overheating. Also worth checking are the clutch and gearbox for wear, the diesel engine's injection pump, and the frame and axles for rust; spare parts for this older Eicher series are now only available through specialist suppliers.
