The register lists 64 versions with 107 to 336 kW from eight- and ten-cylinder engines of 5,400 to 7,600 cm³, unladen weights of 2,100 to 3,786 kg, gross vehicle weights of 3,500 to 5,035 kg, lengths of 5,140 to 6,700 mm and widths of 1,920 to 2,260 mm.

In North America the F-250 fills the gap between light pickups and medium-duty trucks and is used chiefly for towing – motorhomes, horse trailers, construction equipment – and in commercial fleets; its main rivals are the Chevrolet/GMC 2500 and the Ram 2500, against which Ford competes mainly on the Power Stroke diesel and towing capacity.

When buying used, check frame corrosion at the rear leaf-spring mounts and brake lines, on diesel versions the injection pump, turbocharger and exhaust aftertreatment, on the V10 Triton petrol engines the spark-plug threads and cooling system, and generally the shift behaviour of the automatic transmission; body and wear parts are widely available through the Ford parts network.
