Car transporters of this weight class are used by car dealers, restoration workshops, classic-car owners and motorsport teams to move single vehicles; with an unladen weight of around a tonne they stay, despite the tridem axle, within the 3.5-tonne limit for a category-B licence with trailer. The tridem versions in particular allow a more even load distribution than classic tandem trailers, which is gentler on lowered or delicate vehicles in transit.
On used car transporters, the loading rails or ramps and their folding and locking mechanics matter, tie-down straps and lashing points, the condition of the deck in wood or aluminium, axles, brakes and tyres of the tridem axle group, and the overrun brake device. On frequently used ramps, the hinges and locks are also worth checking for play; spare parts run through Fitzel and trailer suppliers such as Knott and Al-Ko.
