The 66 series followed the earlier model generations at Fiat Trattori in Turin during the 1980s, covering the mid power class with the four types 466, 566, 666 and 766; the leading digits mark the ascending power step, and the ending 66 the series itself. Here too the DT suffix denotes the four-wheel-drive version with Doppia Trazione, while the base versions ran rear-wheel drive only.

The 66 series tractors were aimed at medium-sized arable farms and competed directly with the contemporaneous models from Same, Lamborghini, Landini and Ford of similar power class; after the merger with Ford in the early 1990s the series was phased out under the new brand logic.
On a used purchase, check the condition of the clutch and gearbox, the tightness of the hydraulics, and corrosion on wings and bonnet; on DT four-wheel-drive versions also check the condition of the front axle and its joints, and parts now run through independent agricultural machinery dealers.
