Fendt Fix 2 D: air-cooled two-cylinder diesel compact tractor from the Fix series, 1,400 cc, 12.5 kW and 1,265 kg weight, built in the 1960s
Fendt is a German tractor manufacturer based in Marktoberdorf in the Allgäu region and has been part of the American AGCO corporation since 1997. In the 1960s the Fix series was one of the manufacturer's smaller lines, aimed at small farms that needed a simple, robust tractor without extensive extra equipment.

The Fix 2 D is powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine of 1,400 cc, producing 17 hp, or 12.5 kW, at 2,000 rpm. At a weight of 1,265 kg, a length of 2,890 mm, a height of 1,430 mm and a width of 1,520 mm, with a wheelbase of 1,750 mm, the machine is a compact small tractor whose top speed of 20 km/h was sufficient for field work.
Air cooling made the engine largely immune to frost and did away with coolant, a radiator and a water pump as possible sources of wear and leaks; in exchange, cooling performance under sustained full load is lower than with a water-cooled unit. A tractor of this size and output was built for light field work, hauling small trailers and running simple mounted implements, not for heavy tillage.
When buying such an old small tractor, the condition of the cooling fins on the cylinder block and of the cooling fan matters most, since dirt or damage there leads directly to overheating. Also worth checking are wear in the clutch and gearbox, the state of the brakes, and corrosion on sheet-metal parts and the frame; spare parts for such a small and old Fendt model are now only available from specialist suppliers.
