The Fendt Favorit 900 Vario introduced the first continuously variable transmission on a large tractor in 1995 and was built in Marktoberdorf; the range comprises the 916 Vario, 924 Vario, 926 Vario and the Favorit 920 Vario and 926 Vario, all with six-cylinder diesel engines of around 6.87 litres.

With the stepless Vario transmission, the 900 range marked a technical milestone for the large-tractor class and gave Fendt an edge over competitors still relying on stepped gearboxes at the time; Favorit 900 Vario tractors were aimed at large farms and machinery cooperatives that needed a comfortable, continuously adjustable drive under heavy field loads.
On used examples with early Vario transmissions, the condition of the hydrostatic unit is decisive, along with the cooling system and transmission control electronics; on the six-cylinder engines, check the injection pump, turbocharger and charge-air cooler, look for rust on the cab and fenders on older examples, and parts are available through authorised Fendt dealers.
