The Fendt Farmer 5 S/SA carries a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 3,402 cm³ of displacement, producing 65 hp, or 47.6 kW, at 2,400 rpm. At 2,945 kg, 3,820 mm long, 2,450 mm high, 1,980 mm wide and with a 2,246 mm wheelbase, the machine reaches a top speed of 20 km/h.
With four cylinders and 47.6 kW, the Farmer 5 S/SA was the stronger choice within the early Farmer range for farms needing more pulling power than the simple two-cylinder versions, for example for ploughing and cultivating on medium-sized areas. The 20 km/h design top speed falls under German driving licence class L.
When buying an early four-cylinder Farmer used, the condition of the injection system and the cooling system under full load matters, along with the tightness of the hydraulic connections for implements. Also worth checking is corrosion damage to the frame and mudguards, and the condition of the clutch and gearbox, which can be worn on tractors of this age after decades of use. Also worth checking before purchase are the condition of the tyres and the lighting system.
