With the Farmer name, Fendt, built in Marktoberdorf, Bavaria, introduced one of its longest-running tractor ranges for medium and smaller farms. The Farmer 1, the first version of this range, was built from 1958 to 1961.

The Fendt Farmer 1 carries a two-cylinder diesel engine with 1,700 cm³ of displacement, producing 25 hp, or 18.3 kW, at 2,000 rpm, and was water- or air-cooled depending on the version. At 1,445 kg, 2,945 mm long, 1,590 mm high, 1,575 mm wide and with a 1,810 mm wheelbase, the machine reaches a top speed of 20 km/h.
At 18.3 kW and just under 1,450 kg, the Farmer 1 was a light all-purpose tractor for smaller farms that did not need a large, heavy tractor for field work, haulage and yard tasks. The 20 km/h design top speed falls under German driving licence class L.
When buying such an old two-cylinder tractor used, the condition of the cooling system matters, whether water- or air-cooled, along with the condition of the injection pump. Also worth checking are rust on the frame and mudguards, the function of the mechanical brakes, and the condition of the tyres, as spare parts for tractors of this age are often available only used. On such an old vehicle, the condition of the lighting system and the wear of the clutch and steering linkage are also worth checking closely.
