Fendt Dieselross (1930–1958) – the first small tractor with a diesel engine: F9, F12, F15 to F28, G25 wood gas, F236 and F237, 6.6 to 29 kW

The Dieselross is the tractor with which Fendt began: in 1930 the Marktoberdorf machine works built the first small tractor with a diesel engine – 6 hp, a Deutz single-cylinder, cutter bar and trailer hitch for farms that could not afford a Lanz Bulldog. The name stayed until 1958 and was only then replaced by the Farmer and Favorit. The type number gives the output in hp: F9 with 9 hp, F12, F15, F17, F18, F22, F24, F28; G stands for producer-gas operation – the G25 Holzgas ran on a wood gasifier during the war – H for the version with hydraulics, the three-digit F236 and F237 are the last Dieselross of the 1950s with MWM engines, the FL 114 an early type of the Farmer range. The engines came from Deutz and MWM, one to three cylinders, air- and water-cooled.

The register lists 15 versions with 6.6 to 29 kW (9 to 25 hp), 657 to 3,979 cm³ with one to three cylinders, unladen weights from 800 to 2,400 kg, lengths from 2,280 to 3,440 mm, widths from 980 to 1,850 mm and heights from 1,290 to 1,800 mm; eleven models run on diesel, one on wood gas.

The Dieselross turned Fendt from a farm-machinery repair shop into a tractor maker and founded the brand's reputation for comfort: even the F12 had a sprung seat, and the Dieselross of the 1950s gained mower, belt pulley and PTO as standard.

Used Dieselross are the classic collector tractors of southern Germany with an active club scene; when buying, originality of engine and sheet metal, compression and injection pump, gearbox and brakes and the completeness of mower and accessories are what count.
