The 200er-S range rounded out Fendt's line-up, built in Marktoberdorf, Bavaria, within the AGCO group, with more simply built standard tractors alongside the Vario ranges with a stepless transmission. The 208 S was built from 2003 to 2009.

The Fendt 208 S carries an air-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 4,314 cm³ of displacement, producing 80 hp, or 59 kW, at 2,300 rpm, with 339 Nm of torque; it runs on diesel or RME. At 3,220 kg, 3,695 mm long, 2,515 mm high, 1,963 mm wide and with a 2,232 mm wheelbase, the machine reaches a top speed of 40 km/h.

Air cooling, rarer at Fendt than the usual water cooling and more often associated with makers such as Deutz or Hatz, does without coolant, a radiator or a water pump, making it immune to frost damage in the cooling system. At 59 kW and with a conventional gearbox, the 208 S suits field work with medium-weight implements and haulage runs on the farm. The 40 km/h design top speed falls under German driving licence class T.

When buying an air-cooled engine used, the condition of the cooling fins on the cylinder block matters, which should be free of dirt and damage, along with a working oil cooler, which plays a bigger role with air cooling than with water cooling. Also worth checking are the condition of the clutch, the tightness of the hydraulic connections for implements, and corrosion damage to the frame and mudguards.
