The Allrad 222 is a narrow-gauge four-wheel-drive tractor for special-crop farming, of the kind needed between tight rows in viticulture and orchards: at widths under a metre the machine fits where standard tractors no longer pass. The type logic distinguishes drive and engine: HINTERRAD 222 is the rear-wheel-drive version, ALLRAD 222 the four-wheel-drive version, with the fitted engine given in brackets – Farymann P and Farymann S as well as MWM D302-2 and D325-2, all small, air- or water-cooled industrial diesels with two cylinders, as small-series makers of narrow special-crop tractors typically sourced from suppliers.

Such small tractors filled a niche on the steep slopes of viticulture that big makers such as Fendt or Deutz-Fahr only later occupied with their own narrow ranges; on the used market they are rare today and sought chiefly by part-time winegrowers.
On used tractors, the condition of engine and cooling system, leak-free hydraulics, rust on the narrow frame, the condition of the front axle on the four-wheel-drive model and parts supply, now only limited and running through specialists for the small Farymann and MWM engines, are what count.
