David Brown was a British tractor manufacturer based in Meltham, near Huddersfield in Yorkshire. The 995 was built from 1971 to 1976 and belonged to the maker's Selectamatic generation, named after the shared control panel for hydraulics and PTO, which let both systems be operated independently of the driving clutch.

The water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine has a displacement of 3,194 cc. The Selectamatic control brought hydraulic valves and PTO clutch together on one panel and allowed a so-called live PTO, independent of the driving clutch, which kept turning even when the tractor was stationary. At almost 46 kW and over 2.6 tonnes, the 995 was built for heavier draft and PTO work on medium to larger farms.
When buying a used example, check the condition of the Selectamatic valve block and the PTO clutch, since worn seals here lead to a loss of hydraulic performance. Equally important are the radiator and water pump, clutch and gearbox, the condition of the steering knuckles given the vehicle's weight, and rust on sheet metal.
